CSUST Attends the Second China-Russia Jiaotong University Presidents Forum

The second China-Russia Jiaotong University Presidents Forum was held in Beijing from September 3 to 5, centering on "innovation-driven and integration". Premier Li Keqiang and Chairman of Russian Federation Council Valentina Matvienko extended their congratulatory messages respectively. NPC Vice Chairman YiMing Bahai attended the forum and delivered a speech. Mr. Liu Limin, Vice Minister of Education, Mr. Feng Zhenglin, deputy Minister of Transportation and over 100 representatives from more than 60 universities in China and Russia attended the forum.

Premier Li Keqiang said in his congratulatory letter that a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Russia had further deepened and the cooperation in the transportation field became a new highlight of bilateral practical cooperation. It is an important part of the construction of Silk Road economic belt and of the Eurasian Economic Union to promote cooperation between China and Russia and the interconnection of infrastructure construction field. The forum focused on high-speed rail cooperation between China and Russia, which was in line with their strategic needs. Premier Li urged that universities engaged in the transportation field should enhance mutual learning and work together in such fields as personnel training, scientific research, social services to further expand and improve the level of cooperation, to promote bilateral cooperation and promote friendship and make new contributions.

Mr. Jiang Changbo, Vice President of CSUST, was invited to attend the forum and delivered a speech. He said that CSUST had always been making efforts to serve the country's external development strategy, which was considered as a core mission in the process of building a high level university, and that the strategy of “One belt, One road” provided significant opportunities to promote internationalization and deepen the comprehensive reform. As a traditional university involved mainly in transportation sector, CSUST was willing to strengthen exchanges with jiaotong universities in road and railway, information control, transportation planning, ports and channels. Through educational cooperation, collaborative innovation in science and technology, CSUST would seize the opportunity to nurture talents and provide research services for the construction of “One belt, one road” initiative and jointly promote the development of transportation in both countries.

During the forum, in the advocacy and promotion of Chinese universities led by Beijing Jiaotong University, the two sides jointly issued the "Beijing Declaration", aimed at the implementation of the national "One belt, one road" strategy as well as "going-out strategy of high speed rail” and to promote exchanges and cooperation in the transport sector between universities in both China and Russia and improve the international influence and international level of higher education.

During the meeting, Mr. Jiang Changbo also met with Mr. Nekhoroshkov Vladimir, vice president for foreign affairs of Siberian Transport University (Russia). The two sides had a friendly discussion and explored the possibilities in cooperation in engineering personnel training, scientific cooperation and innovation coordination, joined by director from the International Office of CSUST.
