杨昌虎，男，湖南石门县人，1964年8月出生，博士。1981-1985年毕业于重庆大学应用物理专业，长期从事物理教学和研究工作。2000年至今在长沙理工大学工作，2008年进入上海大学攻读凝聚态物理专业的博士，从事光伏薄膜材料方面的研究，2011年获博士学位。        

主要研究方向：光伏材料与器件，表面、界面与薄膜物理，水质检测。  

先后参加多项国家自然科学基金项目、湖南省自然科学基金项目等项目的研究，并主持湖南省教育厅科研项目(06C104)的研究。以第一作者发表学术论文17篇，其中SCI、EI论文9篇。
