

On September 14, Professor Joseph Owino, director of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and leader of the joint-education program from University of Tennessee (Chattanooga) and Dr. Ignatius Fomunung visited CSUST. They were warmly welcomed in the Yuntang campus by Professor Jiang Changbo, vice president of CSUST, joined by staff from International Exchange Division, Division for Academic Affairs, International College and School of Civil Engineering.
The purpose of this visit by our joint-education program partner was to conduct a field trip to keep updated with the current situation of the joint-education program and have a further discussion about the details of the program to ensure smooth operation. During the meeting, Mr. Jiang introduced the progress we made in this program and the basic information about the enrolled students, acknowledging that CSUST attached great significance to this first Sino-Foreign joint-education program of CSUST and would pool all resources to ensure its success. He also proposed that both universities could expand the cooperation in fields such as joint-education of post-graduate students, conferment of academic degrees, share of lab resources and scientific cooperation in hot issues as geographic disasters and energy crisis. Professor Joseph Owino expressed, on behalf of UTC, their appreciation for the hard work CSUST did for this program and said that UTC also emphasized on international exchange and cooperation and would be willing to conduct further cooperation in student and staff exchange, sharing of lab resources and establishment of joint-education institutions.
The two guests also had a discussion with related administrative office and schools on the issues as the amendment of joint-education training scheme and establishment of a working-group for the program.
After the meeting, both parties exchanged gifts and took photos.
