



A delegation of four members from Missouri State University led by its Vice President Mr. Jim Baker visited CSUST on November 10th. CSUST President Mr. Lai Mingyong welcomed and met with the guests on Yuntang campus, joined by CSUST Vice President Jiang Changbo and chief staff from Party and Administration Office, International Affairs Office, School of Economics and Management, School of Chemistry and Biology Engineering, School of Computer and Communications and College of Continuation Education.
Mr. Lai Mingyong first extended a warm welcome to the delegation and introduced about CSUST. He pointed out that Changsha University of Science and Technology was proud of its distinctive characteristics, boasting of its strength in such disciplines as transportation, electricity and hydrology, and graduates in this disciplines were welcomed by the employment market. He further mentioned that internationalization and information technology were the two pillars of the development of Chinese universities, and the ultimate focus of internationalization should be communication between people; as for the cooperation between universities, this was reflected in the exchange between teachers and students. He also recalled his unforgettable visit to Missouri State University last year, acknowledging that this visit would open a new chapter of substantive cooperation between the two universities.
Mr. Jiang Changbo introduced about the international exchange of CSUST, including training of international students, construction of Confucius Institutes and our joint-education program for undergraduates majoring in civil engineering with the University of Tennessee (Chattanooga). He said that CSUST attached great importance to international exchanges and cooperation, especially with American universities and educational institutions, and expressed his hope that the student exchange, research cooperation projects with the Missouri State University could be implemented in the quickest possible time.
Mr. Baker expressed appreciation for the warm reception of CSUST. He briefly introduced the disciplines, students scale, and faculty of Missouri State University and also introduced the cooperative projects between Missouri State University and Chinese universities and other institutions. He pointed out that cooperation should not be limited to a single mode and the most suitable projects could be explored in advantageous and similar disciplines between the two universities. He said that Missouri State University was willing to conduct exchange and cooperation with CSUST on the basis of mutual understanding.
After the meeting, on behalf of their respective university, Mr. Jiang Changbo and Mr. Baker signed on the agreement of joint-education program and the two sides exchanged gifts and took photos.
Missouri State University was established in 1905 in Springfield ( the third largest city in Missouri). It is a widely recognized and prestigious local university, playing an important role in business, political and educational affairs in the region and the country. Missouri State University can offer vocational, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in over 100 professions and disciplines, among which its business, public administration, hotel management, audiology, medical vocational education are among the top nationwide. Missouri State University currently has over 21,000 students and more than 700 faculty members, with 150 undergraduate majors and 43 graduate programs. The Business School of MSU is the largest of its kind in Missouri and Midwest and also one of the largest nationwide.
