杨巧勤，加拿大萨斯克彻温大学机械工程系教授、博导及萨斯克彻温专业工程师。1985年获湖南大学工程物理学士、1988年获中科院金属所金属材料硕士、1997年获湖南大学无机非金属材料博士学位。1988年至1999年在湖南大学工作期间，她和她领导的小组建立了X光材料分析实验室，并领导完成了12个研究项目。期间她先后五次获得省部级科技进步奖。她在1997 年成为该大学年轻的教授。
自1999年始，杨教授先后在维也纳科技大学和日本海洋研究所分别进行了9个月和21个月的研究。期间，她建立了摩擦学新研究领域，对陶瓷材料及其摩擦做出了杰出贡献。
2002到加拿大萨省大学后，她在摩擦及纳米涂层方向取得了长足发展，并建立了设备完善的实验室，领导很多国家级研究项目并在加拿大和全世界赢得了很高的声誉。她已经成为全球在纳米涂层技术领域的领军者。
她的主要研究方向为表面工程和纳米复合材料及其薄膜和涂层：金刚石和其相关的材料、碳纳米材料、陶瓷及其复合材料、等离子和离子束表面处理、物理和化学气相沉积法、微观结构、摩擦磨损、机械性能、生物特性等。杨教授在该领域享有很高声誉，曾先后在12场世界顶级学术会议上做特邀报告，在《Carbon》、《Applied physics Letters》、《ACS Journal Applied Materials and Interfaces》、《Nanotechnology》、《Diamond and its Related Materials》、《Surface and Coatings Technology》、《Thin Solid Films》等期刊发表研究论文161篇，她是萨省大学机械系的首位女教授， 加拿大材料科学与工程学科的首位女研究主席 (Canada Research Chair)。

Why are the Universe and Human beings so wonderful and so amazing? What is the truth? What is the real life? What are the purpose and meaning of life? In order to find the answers, Dr. Yang has had strong curiosity and passion for science and technology. She was so interested in Particle Physics, Astronomy, and Philosophy when she was in high school and University. Her curiosity moved to Materials Science and technology when she was in graduate studies because materials are so deep-seated in our culture: virtually every segment of our everyday lives is influenced to one degree or another by materials. In fact, human civilizations have been designated by the level of material development (Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Silicon (Information) Age, ….). Specially, her research interest is in Carbon Materials because Carbon is a special and fascinating element. It is carbon that creates the lives and makes the world so colorful and wonderful.
