报告摘要:Underlain by continuous or discontinuous permafrost, Arctic Alaska has experienced a warming rate that is twice that of the rest of the world, resulting in significant impacts on the built infrastructure. This presentation introduced frozen soil as a geological material with unique physical and mechanical properties. It will then discuss climate change and how permafrost has responded to warming air temperatures in Arctic Alaska. The remainder of this talk will focus on the geotechnical issues associated with transportation infrastructure in Arctic Alaska, which is underlain by warm permafrost, including foundation design, slope stability, and seismic considerations. This presentation will conclude with a discussion of research challenges.
